The Garden of Eden is remembered as a beautiful but broken place. A place that held such potential, so many fruits and beautiful trees, yet, one decision led to us today remembering it as the place where man would fall. Where sin and the desires of the flesh would prevail.
God placed every instrument that could be used for mankind to thrive, to replenish, and to be great in that garden. He placed every fruit available that Adam and Eve could dream of eating... so why reach for the one fruit that would cause the most heartache? The most pain down the road? Yes, it might’ve looked tasty and wonderful at the moment, but in the moment we never think about how our decisions will affect us in the future.
I’m not writing this to accentuate the impact our decisions can make when we let our flesh take control, or when we don’t think of how it will impact us later on down the road, or maybe how that decision might impact the generations to follow us, even though that is all so very true as we look at Adam and Eve.
I don’t know where you stand today, what situation or decision placed you in the position you are in. Maybe it was your decision that led you down a broken path you never anticipated having to tread... or maybe it was the decision of someone else that then impacted your life and turned your world upside down. No life is a mistake, and we serve a God who forgives when we call out to Him in the spirit of true repentance.
What I’m writing today, is that no matter what brought you here, whether your decision or someone else’s, it is your responsibility to decide what will become of it and what will become of you. Will you let the bitterness take root that will send your family and future children into a home where church, fellowship, and the Lord are seen as unnecessary? Whatever you do, do not blame God for the decision you made or someone else made which hurt you. He’s the one that’s been listening every night you’ve cried out, and He knows what you need and desire. But don’t expect anything good to come out of this trial if you do not put the effort into rising above the hurt, bitterness, and frustration. The Lord has given you the ability to grab hold of His hands, and His word and rise above this storm that you thought would end you.
So what will we choose to do??
We can choose to grow bitter, and push the One away who longs to bring us the closest. Or, we can choose to believe in His promises, and that good things can come from broken dreams if given over to the Lord to use for His glory.
It’s time we rise above our Eden, take hold of the pain, and hand it over to the Savior because in our own strength we can do nothing to overcome it! When given the choice, will you be found faithful or will you fall out?
May we all be found faithful in Eden 💛
